Terminal II
Built in 1991 to serve the new NB Power 450 megawatt generating station, which is situated adjacent to the port, Terminal II has a 307 metre (1007.2 ft.) long wharf, 28 metre (91.9 ft.) wide apron with an average depth alongside of between 14.4 and 14.6 metres (47.2 and 47.9 ft.) at chart datum. It is capable of handling Capesize vessels up to a 100,000 DWT maximum. The terminal currently serves Panamax ships (between 55,000 and 80,000 DWT) hauling cargo from the USA and South America. Its automated coal continuous ship unloader (CSU) has the rated capacity of moving 1,750 metric tonnes (1925 imperial tonnes) per hour into its enclosed conveyor system.
The NB Power generating station was specifically designed and built to accommodate the construction of a parallel second generating station. In July 2004, a Titan ProAsh facility was built to recapture some 75 percent of the fly ash produced by the generating station. This energy production by product is recycled either as a combustible carbon ash which is reused in energy production or as a quality, value added product.
